BIPOC Homegrown Therapists Fellowship Program Cohort 4

The Homegrown Therapists Fellowship was created as a component of ExpresArte’s programming, with the purpose of supporting therapists of color in the Kings, Tulare, Fresno, Stanislaus, Merced and Kern counties who are licensed or on the journey of becoming licensed therapists. The HTF fellowship will provide training and professional opportunities for new Fellows that center on Liberation Psychology using a curriculum that focuses on decolonization mental health and a social justice therapeutic framework. Members of the cohort will be supported with tools, training, coaching, and programming centered on decolonizing therapy and building relationships in the community rooted in trust, culture, and healing justice. Learn how to engage in relational modalities rather than extractive methods as part of practice.
Time Commitments:
The fellowship will run for a 12 month period starting on January 2025.
Attend Biweekly 6 hour training sessions for the 1st quarter.
After the 1st quarter, 2nd-4th quarter will be 8 hour training sessions one Saturday a month.
During the 4 month clinical component of the fellowship, provide counseling to 2-3 BIPOC clients weekly in a hybrid model (virtual or in-person).
Attend weekly clinical supervision as required by the Behavioral Board of Science (BBS) hybrid model (virtual or in-person).
Attend additional meetings as scheduled.
Expectations/ Responsibilities:
Attend the fellowship orientation on January 2025 (time to be determined).
Attend every component of the program.
Implement decolonization techniques/methods into practice during the 4-month clinical component of the fellowship with 2-3 BIPOC clients, meeting in a hybrid model for 4 months of the program. Attend weekly clinical supervision as required by the Behavioral Board of Science (BBS). Fellows will receive a stipend for all clinical counseling session during clinical component.
Develop culturally competent practices and build trust between other fellows.
Requirements:
Provide proof of current professional liability insurance prior to starting clinical component of the fellowship.
Priority will be given to fellows from Kings, Tulare, Fresno, Stanislaus, Merced and Kern Counties.
Post-graduate degree in MFT, MSW or LPCC and Associate registration or clinical license.
This fellowship is exclusively for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color.
Benefits/ Incentives:
Receive a stipend per fellow to be used for Brain-spotting training and for other training/expenses as approved by the program, including testing materials, licensing fees, etc.
Assistance with the process of obtaining license.
Training to support with BBS Licensure tests.
Mentorship from licensed therapists & mental health professionals.
Training on decolonizing therapy, healing and transformative justice.
The fellowship will also include an entrepreneurial component providing business coaching to support the therapists with creating and expanding their own Mental Health Private Practices businesses in Kings, Tulare, Fresno, Stanislaus, Merced and Kern Counties. Fellows will attend a retreat to learn the entrepreneurial skills of creating and running a mental health private practice.
